Sony has recently announced a price drop in their A7, making it Sony’s first full-frame, mirrorless camera below $1,000. This $300 instant savings over the original $1,700 price tag is great news for photographers looking for a solid mirrorless camera their artillery. Retailers like B&H, are selling the body for $998 with free shipping.

The A7 first retailed for $1,699 and it brought high-end DSLR features to a competitive mirrorless body. The A7 is a full frame, 24.3 MP sensor, has fast autofocus, and built-in Wifi. Canon and Nikon loyalists alike have converted over to Sony’s new line. With their A7S, Sony has gained an upper hand over Canon for videographers by having monster lowlight. Read about our review of the A7S here. Flickr even noticed an increasing trend of photos taken with the A7 or alpha series in general. notes an increasing trend of photos taken with the a7, while DSLRs like the Canon 5D Mark III are trending downward. Even with this new trend, Canon and Nikon still dominate the industry, but we wouldn’t be surprised if that trend took a turn.

So what exactly can we get from this major price drop? It could possibly mean a camera remodel or refresh for Sony in the next few months. There seems to be a rumor of a 50 MO A9. Stay tuned!
