Last week we were blessed with a major storm in SoCal but the Inland Empire got a good downpour. So instead of staying nested inside the shop, we decided to head outside and see what we could capture.
We grab a Paul C Buff Einstein with a 11-inch Long Throw Reflector and clipped some colored blue and magenta gels on to it. We know lighting things closer to the lens’ perspective is boring so instead we decided to place it across from us. If you can image a clock and the camera sitting at the 6 o’clock position, we placed the strobe at the 10:30 position. If we placed the light at the 12 o’clock position, it would blind the exposure so we placed it just left of the camera’s perspective to give us some cross light. Hope that made sense.
Here is a list of the gear we used that day:
Canon 7d Mark II
Canon 24mm 1.4 Mark II
Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art
Canon 100mm 2.8 IS L Macro
Canon 180mm 3.5 L Macro
Canon 300mm 4.0 IS L
Paul C Buff Einstein
Pocket Wizard Plus X
We set the camera settings at the following settings:
Einstein Stobe: Power 1/32th
Take a look at some of the results we got from the shoot. As an added bonus, Phil (http://www.handsomeandphilthy.com) was glad to play a raging guitarist from his solo rock band. Thanks buddy! LOL. Video link of the BEHIND THE SCENES below:
