With social media, it sort of is a mystery with how these photographers have such huge followings. However, getting to that point is a slow, steady race that requires consistency and good content. Here are some tips on how to build a huge following on Instagram in 4 steps.
1. Engage with the Community
The Instagram community is huge and it’s growing more and more with Instagram’s “Explore” feature.
Follow people, like one or more of their photos, and then comment. You bring attention to your work and also create relationships with people from your own community across the world.
- Follow people
- Like a photo
- Comment on a photo
2. Knowing the Best Time to Post (Statistics)
The problem with a lot of people is that they’ll take initiatives to better their marketing, but they don’t track the results. What you’re doing is simply not even acknowledging your efforts! Test different times of the day and different days of the week. Know your audience and what they want.
3. Have Collaborations (Including Paid Gigs)
Instameets and photo walks are now more popular than ever. Try hosting one yourself! Contact local museums and hotels or offer them to be featured on your page. Any exposure is good exposure and plus, everyone needs cool photos of their business. A plus side to this is being featured on their accounts which in turn brings more exposure to you. Simple collaborations with brands, businesses, and people extends your reach in the surrounding communities.
4. Have Good Content
I can’t say this enough but content is king! When you post your cool work, it shows who you are as a photographer. Too many times have I seen people have Instagram accounts for their photography business, but all they post is bad photos of their food and selfies. This is a no-no. That’s what personal accounts are for.
