IE Photo Rentals loves working with other small businesses that have the same heart and drive as we do. In an effort to showcase the love of food, photography and networking of local businesses, I (Andrew) will be spending time blogging about all the cool finds in our area and beyond. So make sure to subscribe to our blog!
Many of you may already know about My Delight Cupcakery, which is a local cupcake bakery in the city of Ontario. Just south of the 10fwy and Moutain Ave, you will find this charming spot that has all sorts of baked goodies baked fresh daily. They have been in all sorts of media showcasing their competition wins and it is clear why they have won so many.
Naomi is the creative mindset behind the greatness and today I got the chance to meet her in person. Both Naomi and her brothers have been customers of IE Photo Rentals for years and they were always leaving us some treats every time they visited. I have to say, although I do not have a sweet tooth, I can’t help but get excited over these delights made oh so perfectly.
Today, my favorite lens has to be the Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art lens. This lens is so sharp that I am constantly doing double takes with each shot. Even wide open, it performs and outperforms all of its competitors, minus the Zeiss Opus which I haven’t played with as of yet. One of the main things I love about this lens besides the image quality is the MFD (minimum focus distance). I can get in real close and it can almost double as a macro lens for certain items. All of the shots below were used with the Canon 5d Mark III and shot in Medium RAW format.
Canon 5d Mark III f/2.8, 1/1250, ISO 400. Love the bright red awning and text.
Canon 5d Mark III f/2.8, 1/1250, ISO 400. Love the design of their cupcake truck. Lens is sharp as you can tell and renders details very well.
Canon 5d Mark III f/1.4, 1/1600, ISO 400. To get this shot, I grabbed one of their outdoor chairs and shot it open wide at f/1.4 to add some depth to the shot.
Canon 5d Mark III f/2.0, 1/400, ISO 400. Once again, beautiful clean color and text for your viewing pleasure… I didn’t have a polarizer on me so I tried to make the reflections work.
Canon 5d Mark III f/2.0, 1/800, ISO 400. Did a center focus and recompose and got just enough of the peanut butter and chocolate chip cookie cupcake into the shot. I should have gone a bit higher in ISO and stopped down the f/stop to 4.0 to get some more details. My bad.
Canon 5d Mark III f/2.0, 1/400, ISO 400. It was hard for me to get some proper angles behind the glass and reflections so I did the best I could with the limited angles I had. Coconut Lemon… time to go on vacation with this one lol.
Canon 5d Mark III f/2.0, 1/200, ISO 400. Love love carrot cake as it is one of my favorites. Shutter speed came down to 1/200th on this shot so I held a bit tighter for this shot. The sign was blocking some light, so used Bridge to add a gradient to lighten things up a bit.
Canon 5d Mark III f/1.4, 1/800, ISO 400. Shot this one outside in the shade. Intentionally shot it at f/1.4 as I wanted to drive viewer’s eyes to sticker but it is easily distracted by the scrumptious joys of cupcakes.
